We’re busy getting ready for #bigread12, which will start in week commencing 20th February 2012. The #BigRead12 involves meeting together in housegroups to read the Bible, making use of Tom Wright’s Lent for Everyone: Mark with opportunities to go much bigger and much more creative and join in online (inter)nationally. From quiet sitting rooms with Bibles and books, to coffee shops and internet chatrooms across the world… Get involved!
The weeks will be themed as follows – more information, videos, audio, etc. will appear in the following weeks and all will be available free on this site, or via 12Baskets:
Week 1: Preparation
Mark 1: 1-20. Are you ready to meet your maker? God has come into our midst. It’s time to prepare.
Week 2: Echoes
Mark 4: 35-41 (Psalm 65:7, 89:9, 107:29). You can’t beat the old stories. Jesus echoes the Old Testament in the stories he tells.
Week 3: Expectations
Mark 7: 1-16. Expectations, expectations, expectations. Jesus turned the world on its head, smashing people’s perceptions.
Week 4: Challenges
Mark 8: 27-38; 9 30-37. ‘Who do you say I am?’ asks Jesus, as he challenges people’s ideas of what a ‘King’ might look like.
Week 5: Signposts
Mark 10: 46-52; 11:12-26. “I believe in miracles” but some are easier to grasp than others, as Jesus heals Bartimaeus and curses the fig tree to die.
We recognise that this is where many housegroups will stop, but hope you will continue to join us online as we follow the book through Easter.
Week 6: Finale?
Mark 14: 32-65. As Jesus is brought before judge and jury, it looks like “It’s the end of the world as we know it.”
Week 7: Transformation
Mark 16: 1-8. He’s alive! He was dead and He’s alive. A new way of living is available which offers transformational living to all.
