BigBible and Dr Bex Lewis: 2012-2015

In a world of instant news, it’s difficult to keep some things under wraps.

For a few months now we have been working with the excellent people over at the Jerusalem Trust to secure a grant to support BigBible. We are delighted to say that we have been successful in doing that.  We have received a generous grant which we are adding to other budgeted funds to allow us to make an appointment to the staff team of CODEC.

So, we’d like to formally announce that from September 1st, 2012, Dr Bex Lewis will be working with CODEC in Durham as Fellow in Social Media and Online Learning for at least the next three years.  Bex will have a little bit of time to continue her own DigitalFingerprint work and to write up her thesis!  But for four days a week, Bex will be taking good care of BigBible, developing online learning opportunities with St John’s and Durham University and generally supporting the social media impact of CODEC.  Key to her role as a Fellow, Bex will be producing some first class research out of her work with BigBible and online learning.

We are really excited about Bex’s decision to accept the post and coming to work with us – despite just receiving a huge pay rise at the University of Winchester where she was promoted to Senior Fellow status.  Bex’s decision was based not on money and prestige but on the need to develop the work we are doing with BigBible and having the opportunity to work with a great team!

We are looking forward to some great developments with BigBible: working with theological colleges, Advent projects, developing resources, further engagement with Bible Online, Christian New Media Awards and Conference, lots more.  I am sure that Bex will want to explore this further in the weeks to come.

Of course, although the Jerusalem Trust Grant is really generous, it is actually about half what we actually asked for.  We want to do more for Bex and for BigBible.  So if you would like to help support BigBible and help to top up the grant, then you can give to CODEC here.  Make sure that you state in the comments box on the Durham University site that your gift should go to BigBible.
