Genesis – the story of God going crazy with creativity!
Day, night, sky, land, animals, language, plants…. – the most creative act ever to take place – things we can see and things still to be discovered! The story of creation, and the creation around us, declare the greatness and goodness of God who works out his plan and purposes through us.
The wonder of creation is told amazingly in this song by Gospel singer Carmen….
For me one of the most challenging verses in Genesis is found in Genesis 15 as part of God’s covenant with Abram – v5
“God took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars – if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your off-spring be.”
Later this promise is repeated to Abraham’s son, Jacob:
“I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted” (32:12)
Every time I look at the sky or walk on a beach I am reminded of that promise that God fulfilled and it reminds me God is the same today and if he says it – it will come true!
So the challenge for us today from Genesis:
- In our lives let us be creative in all we do – mirror the God of creation!
- Practice resurrection. Make ugly things beautiful and bring dead things back to life. Paint a new mural in our neighbourhood. And make some cool stuff out of trash. Look for God in the unlikely places. (taken from Shane Claiborne’s 13 hopes for 2013)
- Get outdoors often. And enjoy things like fireflies and shooting stars. Take someone to the beach or the mountains for their first time. And regularly get my hands into the garden… so when I type on the computer I can see dirt under my fingernails.(also from Shane Claiborne 13 hopes for 2013)
- Re-look at the promises of God – words in the Bible, words to your ministry or words given to you personally. Re-connect with them, go outside and look at the stars, walk on the beach and feel the sand to remind you that what God promises will never fail.
Have a crazily creative 2013!!!
