Wey hey – they made it! God had promised his people a land and – true to his word – God delivered! Joshua was set the task – remain committed to the Lord and he will remain committed to you!
In chapter 2 we read of the 2 spies sent to look over the land. The leading person at the very beginning of this new life for the chosen people of God – Rahab a prostitute. Pause a moment and read the words she spoke to the two spies – the insight and wisdom from God she had:
Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof and said to them, “I know that the Lord has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you. We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed. When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.
Hebrews 11:31 – as part of that great list of faith – lists Rahab the prostitute alongside Noah, Moses, Abraham, etc and tells us she was not killed with those who were disobedient.
I love that God uses and speaks through a prostitute and for me it reminds that God never writes people or places off. He loves people, he is for people and he can use people – no matter what – to further his plans and his kingdom (and God loves us so much he wants to see lifestyles changed to reflect the amazing people we are).
As I travel the country visiting local projects linked to Street Angels – CNI Network I meet amazing people in some amazing places – some places areas of high deprivation and high need with people with all kinds of problems and issues. It is in these places and people God seems to delight in doing amazing and beautiful things!
Let us never write off people or places – let us never speak down a community or a household or an individual – rather let us speak up for and pray that they will chose to serve the Lord just as the tribes of Israel did at the end of Joshua.
Let us pray that communities written off by many will become a Promised Land where God and his Kingdom is evident beyond measure.
Let us speak truth to people that they are amazing and listen to the words and look for the actions of God through them…
