CODEC has undertaken studies which demonstrate that although 70% of those who self-designate as belonging to the Christian church own a Bible, only 18% of those had read the Bible that week. This has been largely attributed to the way that reading the Bible has been ‘professionalised’, individualised, and made less accessible. Biblical Literacy projects look at ways in which we can develop Bible engagement among a much wider readership. This section demonstrates research from Biblical Literacy surveys, The North Yorkshire Dales Biblical Literacy Project, and any other resources we feel will help.
